Kettner - Science - 9/23/2016

What We Did Today
We compared and analyzed the data from the marble activity. We needed a reminder about how to correctly determine the average of numbers and how to look at our results and ask, "Does the answer make sense?" We saw that there was a correlation between height of the marble and our distance as well as the number of marbles and distance. We now need to connect the results with potential and kinetic energy.

Homework
No homework.

Stein - Math 6 Plus

What We Did Today:
Students discovered the meaning behind the formula for average. Students "evened" out blocks to decide the mean. We also discussed different ways to visually represent data and worked with an ordered-value bar graph. Notes are available at http://norupstein.weebly.com/math-6-plus-homework-and-answers.

Focus Question:
"How do you go about finding a number that is a good estimate of typical household size based on the given data? "

Homework:
None.

Kettner - Science - 9/22/2016

What We Did Today
We collected data for "Potential vs. Kinetic: What's the Connection?"

Homework
Finish computing the average for each of your trials. Once that is done, analyze the data and find the trends. Were you surprised with the outcome? Why or why not? Is there a correlation between the height of release and distance? What about mass and distance? How does potential energy and kinetic energy relate to this activity? Make sure you have at least 3 complete sentences to address the above.
**Reminder: Parents need to complete and return "Getting to Know your Child".
