Kettner - Science - 11/18/2016

What We Did Today
 Students got back their DS quiz and we went over the correct answers. We then went over the "Density of Cubes" lab. Students shared their density calculations which allowed us to compare the density of each cube with the list of known densities in order to identify the substance.

If you did not finish the lab questions last night do so tonight so you can earn back points.

Kettner - Science - 11/17/2016

What We Did Today
We collected data to determine the density of 8 cubes made of various materials. Once they determined the density, students will be able to compare it to a chart that has the density of 10 known substances and try to identify each of their cubes.

Stein - Math 6 Plus

What We Did Today

Students completed Problem 1.3. Students discovered that the median is the middle position of any set of data that is in order from least to greatest. Students added data to existing sets of data to see if the position and/or value of the median changed. We worked through A and B in class. What We Did Today:

Students reviewed concepts from 1.1 and 1.2. Students worked on ACE questions 1 – 8, 15 – 18, and 24 - 28, starting on page 19 in their "Data About Us" books. Students also worked on the following vocabulary words:

  • frequency table

  • line plot

  • cluster

  • gap

  • mode

  • minimum value

  • maximum value

  • range

Kettner - Science - 11/15/2016

What We Did Today
 We took Daily Science quiz 3 and 4. Following the quiz, students got their new textbooks. These books should be brought to class everyday and can be taken home when needed. Each student has their name written on the front cover with the year 2016 next to their name. Students were asked to read chapter 1, section 2 (pages 22-27). Once finished, they should complete both sides of WS 1-2: Measuring Matter.

Recently, I have collected two additional assignments: "Using a Balance" and "Graduated Cylinder worksheet". Many students are missing these. If you know you did not complete one or both and need another copy, you can find a copy under Science Files.

What We Did Today
We were investigating whether the density of an object would change if you changed the mass of the object. Students practiced more measurements today. Daily Science quiz 3 and 4 are tomorrow - make sure Daily science is complete up through # 38.

8th hour: Complete the "Graduated Cylinder worksheet".

What We Did Today:

Students continued to work on Problem 1.1. Students further analyzed and compared name lengths of Chinese names and US names using their frequency tables. Students then made line plots of the data. The notes are available at http://norupstein.weebly.com/math-6-plus-homework-and-answers.
