What We Did Today
We went over the Biology unit review and students were given some practice genetic questions to review for their quiz on punnett squares. Hours 2 & 3 will have their Genetics quiz on Monday. Hours 5-8 will have theirs on Tuesday. Students were also given a review of our Biology unit and asked to have that done for tomorrow. The Biology unit assessment is Tuesday. It will be approximately 20 multiple choice questions.

Students worked on Bikini Bottoms genetics part 2 and then we corrected it. Hours 2 & 3 will have their Genetics quiz on Monday. Hours 5-8 will have theirs on Tuesday. Spirit Trip

This is a reminder that any student who has not turned in a permission slip for the Spirit Trip next Monday needs to do so as soon as possible. We will be leaving right after students eat lunch, so no food will be provided at the pool. Students are welcome to bring their own snacks as long as they only eat in the designated picnic area. It is also important to bring a water bottle as it might be very hot.

What We Did Today
We shared what we learned about our family last night. This led us to a discussion about dominant and recessive traits. We then started the activity, "Genetics with a Smile". Students were also given, "Mendel's Work". Using pages 80-85 fill out this note taking guide to help you understand our new vocabulary and concepts. This sheet is due on Monday.

We talked about the expectations for the science portion of the Healthy choices project. We then discussed the "Baby Mice" question - defining what is meant by acquired traits versus inherited traits. We ended the class taking a survey on our personal traits.

Congratulations to 6th Grade for winning this year's spirit competition! The spirit trip will take place at the Huntington Woods Pool on Monday, June 12, from 11:30-3:30 PM. We finished discussing why people form governments.  Mr. La Framboise passed out the Skate World permission slips, which are due back (with $11) by Friday, June 2nd.  He also began passing out the Pool Party permission slips, which are due back Tuesday, June 6th.  If you were not aware, 6th graders won the year-long Spirit competition, which ended this past Friday; as a result, they won a Pool Party at the Huntington Woods Rec Center.

What We Did Today
I reviewed with the students how to open up the "Egg-speriment Planning Guide" in Google Classroom. We then went through each section and talked about expectations. I demonstrated how to insert a data table into the lab report and showed them how to use "Create a Graph" and download it into the report as well. Tomorrow, we will discuss how to write the data analysis and conclusion. The final paper is due next Friday, May 5.

Homework.
Continue working on your Egg-speriment. Even if you have not finished collecting data, you could work on your background information, hypothesis and materials list.

What We Did Today:

Students completed a book scavenger hunt and reviewed concepts to prepare for our first investigation. We also began discussing Problem 1.1.

Focus Question:

 What are "data"? How do you represent data using a frequency table or a line plot? How can you compare two distributions of data?

Students were asked to join my Google Classroom so they can open and edit the Egg-speriment planning guide. If they were not able to do it in class, an invitation was sent to that student. Students were then given time to finish the "Photosynthesis and Respiration Packet".

Complete the entire Photosynthesis and Respiration packet.

What We Did Today
We watched the "Osmosis Rap" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqKlLm2MjkI to help review osmosis and diffusion. We then worked on writing the hypothesis for the "Egg-speriment". At the end of class, we talked about the expectations for the "Story of Photosynthesis" comic strip.

Homework.
Complete one panel of your comic strip. Make sure the picture directly addresses the specific action within that panel. Be neat, clever and colorful. Make sure that you add a caption as well. We will work on this in class tomorrow - make sure you bring your colored pencils or markers.
