Stein - Math 6 Plus - 3.24.17

What We Did Today:

Students were given different problems and focus question from Investigations 1 and 2. Students were to explain the answer to each focus question and choose an example that summarized the problem. Students worked collaboratively on class posters.

Kettner - Science - 3/23/2017

What We Did Today
Students got their Chemistry unit test back. Corrections can be made by Monday if they follow the format provided on the test corrections sheet. We then labeled the Animal Cell on the "Structure and Function of Cells" packet.

Homework
 Using pages 23-31 and complete up through nucleus on the third page of "Structure and Function of Cells" packet. A copy of this can be found in the Science Files.

La Framboise - Individuals & Societies - 03/22/2017

What We Did Today
We finished talking about characteristics of culture, then began reading "Culture: the Engine of Human Adaptation," using the Three Brains are Better Than One strategy.

None, unless you are Ruby or Parker.  They need to clean their rooms and bathroom floors.

What We Did Today:
Students went over the answers to page 47, which had them look at two different sets of data and determine what questions could or could not be answered from the given data. Students worked on ACE questions 10-16, 28-32 and 35-37.
Focus Question:
How do you distinguish different types of data? What statistics are used with different types of data?

Kettner - Science - 3/22/2017

What We Did Today
Students were given about 10 more minutes to complete the questions that went to "I'm Joe's Cell". We then went over them. Students are to read pages 23-31. This is a major section - we are learning about the organelles in the cell and their functions.

This Week
Monday - Friday:

Reading: Students will be completing a different activity each day with the Article of the Week (Gooey Stretchy Slime) and reading independently (any book) 

Writing: We will individually work on the visual piece of our project. Students need to create a google slide, art piece, animation, comic, or choice (approved by teacher). Students will begin presenting this "awareness campaign" in class Monday. (this is the visual piece to go along with the essay).

What We Did Today
We examined more clues from our mystery culture and made inferences (conclusions based upon evidence).  We also began learning about characteristics of culture (shared, learned...).

What We Did Today:

Students completed Problem 2.4, "Who Else is in Your Household? Categorical and Numerical Data." Students worked on page 47, which had them look at two different sets of data and determine what questions could or could not be answered from the given data. Students had to supply reasoning for each decision and answer.

How do you distinguish different types of data? What statistics are used with different types of data?
