Rossiter/Werber - ELA - 01/4/2017

What We Did Today
Read The Hour of the Bees and looked for motivations and problems to help us better understand the themes within the book. The students also did the same in their own independent reading novels.

Mrs. Rossiter's classes reflected on their Essential Agreements by Talking to the Text and generating reading and writing goals for 2017.

Mrs. Werber's classes wrote personal narratives about their winter break.

Homework
Mrs. Rossiter: In your notebook, review the T-Charts you wrote on your independent reading novel and find 3 THEMESWrite each theme as a thesis sentence and under the sentence bullet three examples (evidence) to support the claim.

Example:

In The Hour of the Bees by Lindsay Eager, the theme of time is measured in different ways.
  • Sheep (Grandpa Serge)
  • Before/After Tree (Grandpa Serge)
  • Change (Carolina)

Mrs. Werber: Read and continue adding to your "Motivation/Problem - Lesson (Theme)" T-chart.

Discussion Starters
What are your reading and writing goals for 2017?  Why did you pick these goals?  What do you hope to gain from making these goals?
What personal narrative did you share with the class?
